The time has come once again to select the ‘Rugby Player of the year.’ As you all know that we select the Rugby Player of the year annually based upon the votes from our fans. And once again, for the 3rd consecutive year, it is the time select this year’s player.
This time we are going to collect the votes in two ways.
One is, via a facebook application. So we have launched an application on http://apps.facebook.com/playervote where you can go and vote for your favorite Rugby Player. Every user account has one vote, so use it wisely and chose your favorite player.
Second is, we made up an application on Etisalat. To make the fun a little more high each number has allocated with 3 votes. To vote to your favorite player all you need is a Etisalat mobile connection (post paid or prepaid). All you have to do is sending an sms as mentioned below:

Hi there! It’s been a while since we blogged. We took the meantime to do some quite interesting upgrade on our system.
The main of it was the User accounts for all our fans. This is just the initial step to the next step, just like Google did introduce the ‘+1′ button in its search results before they come up with the Google plus.
This is how things are going to work out! Now we are introducing these accounts and in a very few weeks we will introduce our new system where all of you are going to have a very exiting and awesome experience. These accounts, where you are going to have your own profile, will decide how extreme you are about your school in sports and you can be a proud profiler with some cool features on it.
These user accounts will be ‘Invite only’ for now. So what we did is we have asked our users to request on a post in our Facebook Fan page, if they would like to have one. We have limited the initial invites because we wanted to give some special prestige to our first few members. So the people who are going to get invites directly from us will be our ‘Premier Members’ where they will have the most priority in the hierarchy of User levels on CheerUrTeam. If a fan would like to have an account with us, he/she should have a Facebook account to sync it here. We did this due to we are pretty much combined with Facebook where we interact with our fans a lot. Also this ensures us how far a user is interacts with us on our fan page and he/she will get some special features to her profile in order of appreciations. These features will be revealed in nearest future. :)
You know there are already a new feature called ‘Player profiles’ in CheerUrTeam. If someone who has a player profile signs up for the user account, all his data of his achievements such his scores and pictures of him will be automatically synced to his user profile. So he does not need to worry about his past achievements may get lost.
Last but not least, you will have personalized home pages. The homepage will be customized automatically according the user’s representing current school. So when he logs in he will firstly see the matches of his school and all the others such as photographs and posts of his school.

We are really glad to announce you very awesome news. We are an official media partner of a well-known event Boombas-T ’11. The awesomeness is about to happen on this 23rd of July. This Boombas-T has started by Junior Chamber International Sri Lanka in 2010. It was one of very few tournaments where Sri Lankas top teams competed. This year it is about to continue.

CheerUrTeam is known for it’s ground breaking concepts and admiring simplicity. As a forerunner of school sports, we bought another unique feature to our sporting system.
As you’ll know we were quite strong in Cricket and Rugby and we have a general system that will allows us to update any other sports. Cheerurteam’s core system (Ground-up developed) that runs on our US maintain servers has the ability to integrate sub systems to each and every sports. So, swimming system became the newest addition.
Swimming is one of the fastest popularity gaining sport in school divisions. Nowadays schools of Sri Lanka do fight a lot in swimming to keep their prestige level at a high standard. Plus, there were no dynamic system to web-cast the results of a swimming event in Sri Lanka.
So, we developed a system as we have told above to overcome the problem on web-casting a swimming event.
We officially implemented in parallel with Sri Lanka Schools Swimming and Diving Competition 2011.
This is a pre Beta edition and we hope to improve this system in time to come.
The major challenge we faced in the architectural phase is “Swimming is a sport that centered on player rather than a team. So, we have to make sufficient core chances to support the system. Few of those are:
Cheering is enable for individual players. But it also get counted for the respective school that player represents.
The winners are define from the least time
Single school can compete more than once in the same game. Eg: Two swimmers participate for a race from a single school. And so on…
A component will be developed to push these individual timing of the payers for their profiles in the near future.

This is the main page of the Swimming category. You can access this page by overlaying the mouse to the Sports menu in the menu bar and then by clicking the Swimming category. This page will display all the details about the swimming events that happened in the past and happening in the present such as scores, news, and photographs.
This page derived for a particular tournament. Here, all the matches that played on the said tournament will be listed. Also it will show news and photographs that are related to this said tournament will be displayed. All the schools’ names that participate in the particular tournament will be displayed too so that the fans can cheer their team.
This page is the match page. It shows the general details of the particular match and swimming system. The placings and the timings are shown for the particular swimmer.
There will be more details improvements will included to this swimming system.
Finally, we would like to thank the Sri Lanka schools swimming authorities for their fullest support and timely response to make this project a success. Overall its awesome experience to built something like this.
It was great news to us and all of our fans. We became one of the finalists in the mBillionth Awards 2011. It was a tuff competition with around 200 competitors from 10 countries. We competed in the category named ‘m-news & journalism’. In this wehad to compete with some big fellows such as BBC and Ada Derana as well.

mBillionth is one of biggest award giving event in mobile industry. In order to make the content and services deliverable through mobile as a medium and means, Digital Empowerment Foundation formally launched the mBillionth Award South Asia in the year 2010. So, how we managed to come this far?
The challenge that pushed us to develop a solution…
The core requirement which made us to come this far was: There’s nothing on earth for any man to recall when it comes to his/her best days in life but one, without doubt it’s the time with their Alma Mater which was their school life. Unlike in any other part of the world, Sri Lankan’s bond towards their second mother is remarkable. We saw a lot of fights between school students just to keep their school’s respect at the top level. Also they are diehard fans of their schools when it comes to sports. There are loads of different kinds of sports events such as Big Matches, Rugby events etc. happen every year between the schools of Sri Lanka. Even though a school leaver would take pretty much interest in these events no matter how far away he is from his school. They love to get to know the live updates or summary of the sports events that happened where their school took participate. So they yearningly hunt for this infotainment. But it was not delivered in a structurally persistent manner.
The solution we developed…
So, We CheerUrTeam came across an idea of building up a solution for the above problem. We started an online portal where all the local schools’ sports arena is exclusively covered. So we did live updates of the event online and put up a summery analysis of the event’s aftermath. Also, we implanted a simple idea called ‘cheering’. This ‘Cheer’ acts like a vote on every match which could be able understand how much support each team got.
To make our steps a little bit high CheerUrTeam developed applications that deliver this infotainment via SMS, J2ME application, mobile web.

Our main mission was covering everyone who has a mobile. So all the mobile users who are curious about their school’s current match or who are ready to defend their school on an argument with another fellow about the match could somehow access to our any of those portals such as the SMS app of Etisalat, J2ME application and the mobile portal and get to know what exactly happened or happening currently. This simple idea acted a like gravity and grabbed many users, because they could be able to get to know on the go via their mobile even while they are waiting at the hospital for his time on a doctor’s appointment.
We getting into mBillionth Awards 2011
So we applied to mBillionth with all these three applications. As it is mentioned already there were around 200 competitors with us. We applied in the category ‘m-news & journalism’ as we are doing a service which updates the news on mobile. Then the big thing happened as we got into the final round. Even if we don’t get to the highest level, getting into the final round is a great achievement in our journey of success.

Also CheerUrTeam indirectly encourages and supports the schools and schools sports to take off (especially rural school and unpopular sports) by mixing them between good schools and popular sports respectively. This service enable to school level players to highlight their talents to the world at large. More or less this initiative will motivate and encourage the young school goers to perform well. In return county will get better sportsman and sportswomen for the national stream.

The next step is taken by our CheerUrTeam guys to make the cheers more mobile and wide in the world of school sports of Sri Lanka. As you already know we launched a mobile version of theCheerUrTeam a few weeks back. According to techies and nerds, the present world loves to have everything in its pocket. So we brought up that mobile site. Also the current revolution in the mobile is apps. So we thought of bringing up a mobile app as well. What made us think, need of the mobile app? Actually we went through some studies of how people expect us to be. We collected some data. Rather than browsing a site on mobile people love to have them as apps. This made us to think giving our sport fanatics a handy mobile application.
Another study says, for the date Sri Lanka still has the large amount of Java enabled phones. This information pushed us to make a Mobile Java application. So from now on you can enjoy the matches of your school and can CheerUrTeam in your java enable mobile handsets as well.
This application has six main categories:
The school – Where you can see your school’s matches and details
Sports – Where all the matches categorized into different sports columns
Fixtures – Where you can view the upcoming matches’ schedules
Tournaments - Where you can view particular tournament’s match details
Matches – Where you can get info about all the matches
Archives – An archive of all the matches
With all these, we have an opinion wall and a configuration option of the app as well.
What you get via this app is you can simply open it and view the scores or CheerUrTeam on the go as fast as your mobiles are. As it is version 1.0 app it may not be user friendly and may have some errors. In the future we will get rid of them with the help of you. So all you have to do is use the app and give us the suggestions and comments by using the app’s opinion option or by writing on our Facebook page’s wall.
